Notice about Restaurants' Operating Permissions

DATE: 06/05/09          NOTICE
The Village Council is aware that rumours are circulating to the effect that it has unreasonably refused to grant operating permits to some restaurants in the Village. For the record, the Council wishes to make it clear that the buildings concerned cannot at this stage be granted a permit because the owners have undertaken extensions without obtaining the necessary building permits.

Please note that the owners have already been granted an extension of time to legalise their buildings.  The Council could have suspended their operations from last year but did not do so.  Instead it gave them an opportunity to take all necessary action to secure their building permits.

If the Council now granted permanent operating permits for these restaurants, it would be held responsible:

-> if any fire broke out or any accident happened, since the premises are not covered by certificates from the Fire Service;

-> for any cases of food poisoning.

The Council could also be held responsible for discriminating against other premises which fully comply with all legal requirements.
