DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINING COURSE
The Village Office is to be congratulated on the successful conclusion of a defibrillator training course organised by the Executive Secretary to the Village Council, Petros Foutas. The course was conducted by Kyriakos Zenios and Christakis Zenios of EMP Medic First Aid (who send their best wishes to members of the course!) under the auspices of the Cyprus Human Resources Development Authority. The course participants were impressed by the very high professional standard of the training.
This is another major step forward in ensuring that, in this still relatively isolated Village, help is at hand in the case of a major medical emergency.
These new operators will add to the existing group of already trained defibrillator operators in the Village (including, of course, Dr Constantinos himself). This means that, when the defibrillators ordered by the Village Office arrive, it should be possible, day or night, to have a fully-equipped operator at the scene of an emergency in the short time available to get help to anyone in this situation.
The Village Office will, when the defibrillators arrive, notify us of their location and how to contact the nearest operator. This information will be circulated as soon as it is available.
Trained operators will be reassured to know that EMP Medic have given an assurance that, under the Cyprus “Samaritan Law”, once they have a current qualification from the course, there is no problem about whether or not they are able to respond in an emergency, as long as they are up-to-date (there is an abbreviated annual revision course) and are using only the CPR and defibrillator techniques learnt on the course. EMP will be providing us with a paper on this very important subject which we will circulate when it arrives.

Let us hope that we shall never now (as has happened within the last few years) be unable to find help when a member of the community is fighting for their life. Every credit to Petros for taking such energetic steps to fill this essential gap in Village health cover and to everyone who is prepared to make themselves available in this essential area for the benefit of us all.
Footnote: You will have seen Dr Constantinos's notice sent out earlier this week informing us of the closure of our Health Centre for two weeks from 16th May to 31st May and the cover arrangements in the other Villages. I am attaching this again at the end of this Contact, and will put it into the Health section tab on the website.

Εκπαίδευση χρήσης απινιδωτή.
Συγχαρητήρια στο κοινοτικό συμβούλιο που κατάφερε να ολοκληρώσει με επιτυχία τα μαθήματα για την χρήση του απινιδωτή, τα οποία είχαν οργανωθεί από τον Γενικό γραμματέα Πέτρο Φουτά. Τα μαθήματα έγιναν με την καθοδήγηση του Κυριάκου Ζένιου και του Χριστάκη Ζένιου από το κέντρο πρώτων βοηθειών και υπό την αιγίδα της επιτροπής Ανάπτυξης ανθρώπινων πόρων Κύπρου. Οι συμμετέχοντες εντυπωσιάστηκαν από το υψηλό επίπεδο επαγγελματισμού της εκπαίδευσης.
Οι νέοι χρήστες θα προσθεθούν μαζί με τους υπόλοιπους που έχουν ήδη εκπαιδευθεί (συμπεριλαμβανομένου και του δρ. Κωνσταντίνου). Αυτό σημαίνει ότι όταν οι απινιδωτές που έχουν παραγγελθεί από το χωριό έρθουν, θα μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν σε περίπτωση ανάγκης, μέρα ή νύχτα, από τα πλήρες εκπαιδευμένα άτομα του χωριού με σκοπό να βοηθήσουν όποιοδήποτε σε ανάγκη.
Το κοινοτικό συμβούλιο θα μας ενημερώσει για τις τοποθεσίες των απινιδωτών μόλις καταφθάσουν στο χωριό. Θα σας ενημερώσουμε το συντομότερο δυνατό.
Οι εκπαιδευμένοι χρήστες θα μπορούν να ηρεμήσουν μιας και το τμήμα επείγοντων περιστατικών και προμήθειας (EMP Medic), τους επιβεβαίωσε ότι σύμφωνα με την Κυπριακή παραβολή του καλού Σαμαρείτη μιας και έχουν αυτή την εκπαίδευση και το προσόν να χειρίζονται τον απινιδωτή, δεν υπάρχει κανένα πρόβλημα σχετικά με το αν θα είναι ικανοί να ανταποκριθούν ή όχι σε μια επείγουσα κατάσταση, φθάνει μόνο να είναι ενήμερει και να χρησιμοποιήσουν μόνο όσες τεχνικές έχουν μάθει στα σεμινάρια.

Συγχαρητήρια στον Πέτρο που πήρε ένα τέτοιο σημαντικό βήμα για την υγεία του χωριού και σε όσους είναι έτοιμοι να παρέχουν βοήθεια.
Σημείωση: Ο δρ. Κωνσταντίνου μας ενημέρωσε πως το ιατρικό κέντρο θα είναι κλειστό από τις 16 Μαίου εως τις 31. Συμπεριλαμβάνω ξανά την σημείωση στο τέλος του Contact.
MAY DAY ABF WALK -
PISSOURI WALKERS WIN 10 KMS APHRODITE HILLS WALK!
Reports of thunderous weather for the May Day event at Aphrodite Hills - what a shame, much as any rain is welcome. It did not stop the ABF run from being a tremendous success – with a very happy result for Pissouri. Over 200 walkers participated, and Andrew Noyes has sent us this report:
Περπάτημα στο APHRODITE HILLS
Παρόλο που ο καιρός την Πρωτομαγιά δεν ήταν καλός αυτό δεν σταμάτησε τους 200 πεζοπόρους μας από το Πισσούρι να λάβουν μέρος στο μαραθώνιο, ο Andrew Noyes μας έστειλε αυτή την αναφορά :
The Pissouri Walking Group, who normally meet on a Saturday, won the ABF Soldiers’ Charity annual 10 Kms Walk at Aphrodite Hills on Saturday 1st May 2010 in an average time of one hour,
35 minutes.

They beat amongst other teams both the Amathous and Episkopi Hash House Harrier Teams. Well done to our Pissouri Walkers, who have clearly built up a high level of fitness during the Winter months!
ABF Cyprus the Soldiers Charity committee were very grateful to Aphrodite Hills Resort for sponsoring the whole event once again, and to the competitors who gave up their time and lots of effort to make this May Day event such a success. Η ομάδα πεζοπόρων του χωριού κέρδισε το ABF Soldiers ετήσιο φιλανθρωπικό μαραθώνιο 10 χλμ στο Aphrodite Hills που έγινε την 1η Μαίου, η ομάδα έκανε μια ώρα και 35 λεπτά να ολοκληρώσει την πεζοπορία.

SPRUCING UP
Those of you who are here at the moment will have noticed that the Village Office have been in top gear, working to smarten up the Village for visitors in the high season. Extra workers have been brought in. There has been a great deal of work done on the beach, clearing away rubbish and rocks from the beach, cleaning the pavements and doing a lot of work at the Monte Beach (western) end of the Bay. The work has continued right up to the Village and has included irrigation and pruning. There has also been new planting at the top of Kiladon St and near the new Cultural Centre. At the same time the Mukhtar is personally, with his staff, touring the Village to identify and deal with areas which are potential fire hazards as the dry season approaches.
The Mukhtar also reports that there is a crucial meeting in Limassol later this month on the tendering process for the work which is due to start on Anaxsartisias Street (the slipped road below the Village) later in the year.
ΕΡΓΑΣΙΕΣ ΣΤΟ ΧΩΡΙΟ
Θα έχετε προσέξει ότι το κοινοτικό συμβούλιο εργάζεται πυρετωδώς για να προετοιμάσει το χωριό για τους επισκέπτες που θα καταφθάσουν κατά τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες. Έχει γίνει μια πολύ καλή δουλειά στην παραλία όπου όλα τα σκουπίδια και οι βράχοι έχουν απομακρυνθεί, τα πεζοδρόμια έχουν καθαριστεί και γίνονται εργασίες στην περιοχή του Monte Beach. Οι εργασίες έχουν συνεχιστεί ως το χωριό,επίσης, έγινε άρδευση και κλάδεμα των δέντρων και των φυτών που βρίσκονται σε δημόσιους χώρους στο χωριό. Επιπλέον, ο κοινοτάρχης και το προσωπικό περιοδεύουν το χωριό για να βρούνε περιοχές οι οποίες είναι επικίνδυνες σε περίπτωση πυρκαγιάς.
Ο κοινοτάρχης μας αναφέρε ότι μια πολύ σημαντική συνάντηση θα γίνει αργότερα αυτό τον μήνα με σκοπό την υποβολή προτάσεων σχετικά με τον δρόμο στην οδό Ανεξαρτησίας.

Kato Archimandrita
Kato Archimandrita was a Greek Cypriot village in the Ha-Potami river valley just over the ridge from Alektora. It was abandoned in the latter half of the 20th century (the colonial period water troughs are still there to identify its recent habitation). But many of its residents are still living in the area (including Pissouri); and over the last two or three years there has been a considerable increase in the use of the agricultural land around the Village, and work is being done on tidying up the abandoned houses. The church was never abandoned. The ancient Tremithous tree in the third photograph is one of Cyprus’s living monuments. This is favourite walking territory for our Pissouri walking groups.
Κάτω Αρχιμανδρίτα
Η Κάτω Αρχιμανδρίτα ήταν ένα Κυπριακό χωριό στην κοιλάδα του Χαποτάμι, το οποίο είχε εγκαταλειφθεί στα μέσα του 20ου αιώνα. Πολλοί από τους κατοίκους του εξακολουθούν να ζουν ακόμη στην περιοχή, συμπεριλαμβανομένου και το Πισσούρι, τα τελευταία 2-3 χρόνια
υπήρξε μια σημαντική χρήση της αγροτικής γης γύρω από το χωριό και έχουν γίνει εργασίες στην τακτοποίηση των εγκαταλελειμένων σπιτιών. Η εκκλησία δεν είχε εγκαταλελειφθεί ποτέ, και το αρχαίο δέντρο της Τρεμυθούς είναι ένα από τα μνημεία της Κύπρου.
THEFTS
A reader has written to warn readers about a spate of thefts at her apartment block property. This is a real problem for these buildings, which are unattended for a great deal of time out of season:
“Thought you might like to know that at our apartments several items have gone missing of late. Unfortunately, as many of the people who own these apartments are not resident, it means that they are vacant for long periods of time unless they are rented out which lots aren't. Amongst the items which have been stolen are:-
1. A broadband antenna stolen from the roof. Snipped at the cable and the box stolen.
2. Car covers and sunbeds taken from the garages.
3. The new pool net for Block A & B pool.
I believe that these thefts have been reported to the police but it doesn't bode well for the image of the area.”

ΚΛΕΨΙΕΣ
Ένας αναγνώστης μας έχει γράψει για να προειδοποιήσει όλους σχετικά με συχνές κλεψιές που γίνονται στο κτίριο που βρίσκεται το διαμέρισμα της. Αυτό είναι ένα μεγάλο πρόβλημα για τέτοια κτίρια που δεν προστατεύονται:
“Σκέφτηκα πως θα θέλατε να γνωρίζετε ότι στο apartments αρκέτα πράγματα έχουν εξαφανισθεί.Δυστυχώς, πολλοί από τους ιδιοκτήτες που έχουν τα διαμερίσματα δεν κατοικούν εδώ, το οποίο σημαίνει ότι είναι κενά για μεγάλα χρονικά διαστήματα μιας και δεν τα ενοικιάζουν κάπου αλλού. Μερικά από τα πράγματα που έχουν κλαπεί είναι:-
1. Μια αντέννα έχει κλαπεί από την οροφή, μαζί με το καλώδιο και το κουτί.
2. Καλύματα αυτοκινήτων και κρεβατάκια ήλιου έχουν κλαπεί από τα γκαραζ.
3. Το καινούργιο δίκτυ της πισίνας για το Α και Β κτίριο.
Πιστεύω πως αυτές οι κλεψιές έχουν αναφερθεί στην αστυνομία αλλά δεν αρμόζουν στην εικόνα της περιοχής.’’
