Lending a helping hand

Volunteers
They work silently, and inconspicuously; driven by nothing more than an inner desire to help others. They are the volunteers in our society, living proof that our 'civilization' has not completely eradicated our sense of compassion.

They are ordinary people. They work and study, fall in love, raise children, have fun, go on holiday. Just like you and me. And yet so very different. Because volunteers, for whatever reason, have put themselves in the service of humanity, expecting nothing in return. There is no ulterior motive, no bells and whistles. Genuinely and sincerely they give of themselves - whether in terms of moral support, time or money - in order to help the less fortunate among us. They are not seeking attention nor trying to impress. They are simply following their heart. You too can be a volunteer. All you have to do is contact one of the many voluntary organizations, whose prime objective is to offer help and support, wherever it is needed..

The Voluntary Sector in Cyprus

Social Welfare in Cyprus is based on the coordinated efforts of the government and the voluntary sector. The member organizations of the Pancyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council play an important role in almost every field of social policy. They implement a wide range of social programs and services to the vulnerable groups in the society, promote social solidarity and cohesion, support the ideals and values of volunteerism and address social exclusion. In Cyprus , thousands of volunteers organized in voluntary organizations, associations, Community Volunteerism Councils, etc, offer voluntary service to the vulnerable groups in our society who need our love and support.
