It would not be fair to single out good restaurants in Pissouri – we all have our favourites, and you can ask people and try them out to make up your own minds. They are all listed in the Directory on the Home Page.
Terry Blakey has kindly given us permission to draw on the restaurant reviews on his blog to add to our own. You can see the originals on his blog (Links Tab).
Listed below are some of Pissouri folks’ secrets from near Pissouri or further afield. They are well worth trying out.
Directions, obviously, are from Pissouri!
Platniskia Taverna,
Eleni and Andreas.
Platiniskia Village 99 843941
Directions North from Pissouri, follow signs to Alektora then to Plataniskia
Run by the Hadjigeorgiou family since their return to Cyprus from New York. Always been good to excellent and reasonable value for money. Cuisine is a mix of traditional Cypriot with several special dishes the family brought back with them from New York.
Kyrenia Beach Restaurant, Avdimou
99 679451
Soteris
Terry: Directions Take the B6 from the village or bay towards Limassol and when you reach the 'T' junction just before the turning for the m'way on slip (immediately after the turning for Melanda Beach) turn right and follow the narrow winding road all the way to the beach.
Another exceptional establishment offering a mixed menu of traditional cypriot fish and meat dishes alongside a good selection of traditional English dishes. The S&K pie is rich and thick and the fish pie to die for. Very popular among the ex-pat community and prices low. The restaurant is right on a sandy beach.
Telephone
Melanda Beach, Avdimou
Tel. 99 565336/99 422233
Closed Monday evening after 6 pm
Terry: Directions From Pissouri, take B6 road Limassol direction, Before reaching 'T' junction prior to m'way look for signs to restaurant.
In our opinion the best fish tavern in the area. On the beach so view superb and setting simply stunning. Ask Makis to show you the fish and ask what's best today. Prices have been held so it's quite reasonable (remembering that fresh, wild fish is never cheap)
Famagusta Tavern, Avdimou
25 221545
Terry: Directions From Pissouri, take old road Limassol direction, cross over m'way into Avdimou, after shops take first turning left, immediately left again then right up steep incline. Park in square at top.
Description Pretty much our favourite. Scruffy, basic and thoroughly authentic. Mostly grills but liver and onions is to die for. Pork chops huge and don't be afraid to ask for different combinations. Prices still low.
NATA
Pericles Taverna, Nata
Tel. 26 423344/26 467079
Take the Motorway towards Paphos until the Ayia Barbara turnoff. Go north till the turning to Nata. Perikles is the first building on your left as you approach the Village. Renown for Sunday lunches... booking required.
Pericles is a superb host, and the staff are equally welcoming. The quality of the food is confirmed by the number of Cypriots vying with expats for tables for the feast they provide for their Sunday buffet. The setting is also spectacular - well worth the drive. You can do a circuit to and from the restaurant by getting there via the Ayia Barbara exit, but coming back through the Village and back along the eastern side of the Asprokremnos Dam, a lovely drive.
PHINI
Neraida Tavern, Foini
25 422636
Directions From Pissouri, take old road Limassol direction, cross over m'way into Avdimou and follow road to Kato Platres (via Pachna). Take the turning on your left for Phoini in Kato Platres and follow the signs.
Description Well worth the drive (about 40 mins from Pissouri. A traditional Cypriot taverna with traditional dishes. Can't praise it enough.
Phini Tavern
Augoustos
25 421828
Good food, worth the detour from the main Platres Road.
ERIMI
Erimi's Kitchen, Erimi
Terry: Take the m'way toward Limassol and turn off for Erimi, turn left at the bridge and look for the restaurant on your left.
Description Excellent traditonal English fish'n'chips. What more's to be said.
FYTI
Take the Polis Road from Paphos, turn right at Stroumpi, then you will need a map. The road to Fyti is a turn to the right some miles on, and the turn is easy to miss.
Maria's Taverna, Fyti
Tel. 99 138573/26 732540
Maria's is good any day of the week, but again they do a superb Sunday lunch. You will need to call Maria to book a table, as it is extremely popular with villagers and tourists alike.
Pefkos Restaurant, Fyti
Tel. 99 460523
Across the road from here is the Fiti Pefkos (Pine Tree) Restaurant.
VASA
Ariadne's, Vasa
Turn left at Old Road then 1km on left. Good Cyprus cooking and local wine.
Pirkos Tavern.
Drive into Vasa Village. Park by the church and walk up to the tavern.
AVAKAS
Telephone 99 489000
The Last Castle Location Avgas Gorge
Terry: Directions Take the road to Pahos then follow the signs for Coral Bay, then for Agios Georgios. Just before Agios Georgios is a fork in the road, take the right fork for the Akamas Peninsula. The road runs out eventually so just follow the dirt track and look for a right turn signposted to the restaurant. Honestly a 4x4 whilst no longer essential would be a good idea.
Description Set in the remains of an old Turkish(?) fort this restaurant offers only salad, souvla and potatoes. But they're delicious, the views are stunning and the prices so low it's bargain at any time. Very popular on a Sunday so book in advance.
LOFOU
Lofu Tavern, Lofu Village
Tel. 25 243803/99 535532
Terry: Best buy a map. But if you haven't got one then take the road from Pissouri, through Avdimou, Prastio and Pachna. When you get to the 'T' junction the other side of Pachna turn right for Agios Ambrosios then whilst travelling through that village watch for a turning to the left signposted for Lofu. Be aware of the point at which the road bends sharp left and forks at the same time, you need to make sure you take the left fork. Once in the village of Lofu just follow the signs for the Lofu Tavern.
Description Top class traditional village taverna in a beautiful courtyard setting. The owner does his own cooking and on a Friday and Saturday night, after he's finished cooking he'll get out the Bazouki and start playing and singing. Don't know about prices as we haven't been for a little while but when it's this good, who cares? .
