Paphos International Sailing Club has come on in leaps and bounds in the 10+ years since inception. A decade ago, it started life as a group of yachties who met in Paphos to talk boats. It then moved to a container in the middle of a field in Geroskipou and organised itself a committee, a constitution and a cafe/bar. Today it is still in the middle of that field, too many miles from the sea for members' liking, but it's a friendly, well-organised place where people of a like-mind can go to find sailing partners, drinking buddies and a good social scene which revolves mainly about boats and boating. Some members have larger yachts outside Cyprus, others have motor boats on trailers; there is a thriving dinghy section and the club has rescued and now owns some good small craft. This section is now recognised across the island and attends regattas and sailing events across the island. But ... you don't have to own a boat to be a member.
The club opens on Friday lunchtimes from 11am and, in Spring and Autumn, most Tuesday evenings when there are good, lighthearted evenings organised like wine-tasting, themed supper events, quiz and games nights and BBQs.
